Exploring Second Life in Education


Second Life is a multi-user virtual environment (MUVE) in which users create avatars and interact in a 3D world. Many educators are exploring the use of Second Life in order to create engaging learning interactions for students. Learners can visit ancient worlds, explore their identities, participate in simulations, and interact with students in different geographical locations, all within Second Life.

While the possibilties of teaching in Second Life are exciting, the initial learning curve can be steep. Second Life Basics provides tutorials that are designed to develop basic user skills and prepare you for in-world practice. There is a practice section that provides some fun activities you can try to test your new skills in Second Life and re-use in your own classroom. Tutorials - Check out the tutorials to review some of the basic user skills needed in Second Life and build confidence to use Second Life in your teaching.   Practice - Use the practice section to try out your new skills in fun ways. The activities are also good ideas to use with your students to get them started.
